An impersonal warehouse, into a place to stay.
An impersonal, shuttered warehouse space. The plan was to convert this building, once used as a garage, into an inn that welcomes guests. Changing use from warehouse to lodging involves a wide range of requirements — structure, fire safety, natural light, and more. We proceeded carefully, starting from judging feasibility and obtaining the various permits.
We laid tatami in the guest rooms and combined wooden fittings with beds, creating a Japanese-modern space where the calm of Japanese style meets hotel comfort. An impersonal space became a tranquil room to soothe the fatigue of travel.
Handling everything from change-of-use procedures through design and construction, we converted a warehouse in the city into an inn that welcomes guests.
